Co-insurance is your share of the costs of a covered health care service, calculated as a percent (for example, 20%) of the allowed amount for the service. With traditional health insurance you pay co-insurance plus any deductibles you owe, in addition to your co-payment. For example,if the traditional health insurance or plan’s is an 80/20 and the allowed amount for an office visit is $100 and you’ve met your deductible, your co-insurance payment of 20% would be $20 plus your co-payment. The health insurance or plan then pays the rest of the allowed amount.
The CHCC Health plan does not have coinsurance. For outpatient services covered by the Essentials (MEC Plus!) plans, you pay your co-pay, with no deductible or co-insurance. And for inpatient, catastrophic medical services of the kind shared by Zion, you are responsible to pay your IUA, thereafter all expenses for that illness or injury (the Need) are shared at 100%.
